The Interesting Past History Of EVA Air Is Revealing

The name, EVA, derived from Evergreen Airways which was the original name of EVA. There are many ways to come up with a name for a business, and EVA comes from the letters in Evergreen Airways. The airline changed their name to the current version due to another flight company with the same first name. EVA flies out of the island country of Taiwan and provides services to Asian and international destinations. Airlines all pretty much experience the same things, so there histories are all pretty much the same. EVA had financial difficulties in the middle years of the 2000s, but they have survived and are profitable, once again.

Their headquarters, Luzhu, Taiwan, is the hub for this up and rising airline. The president of the company, Chang Kuo-wei, has done an excellent job in establishing this companies international presence. Operations throughout the company are delegated to board members whose responsibilities are many. Lin Bou-shiu is the chairman of EVA as of 2011 and is the go to person in regard to leadership and direction. As with most other airlines, EVA also does a little bit more than passenger carrier flights. Additional management duties include oversight of Evasion travel services, UNI Holidays and Evergreen Laurel Hotels.

EVA, back in the 1990s, acquired several passenger flight aircraft capable of long distance once they had contracted over 20 international destinations. Millions of passengers each and every year were now being safely taken to their destinations with this airline. One of the reasons EVA was able to grow as quickly as it did was simply because of their impeccable safety record. The competitive nature of this company began to move forward as they could now compare their safety record against all the others. Toward the end of the 1990s, they applied for certifications that they were granted which allow them to enter new markets and gain additional business.

Their company had grown so large by 2007 that they were able to service over 5 million people with their fleet of planes. To stay ahead of the competition, constant improvements and investments are being made by this company to stay at the top. In 2008, Skytrax’s yearly World Airline Awards recognized EVA’s Elite Class with the “Best Premium Economy Class” award. Profits were seen in the first quarter of 2009 for this airline. And finally, they earned the distinction of being allowed in the top 10 list of international passenger service airlines in the summer of 2010 for the very first time.

EVA Air is one of many airlines operating from an Asian base yet seeking to establish an international presence. Travel has never been better for those in Europe and Asia because of the business and economy travel packages that they offer. There were no profits, and great losses, less than a decade ago for EVA because of exponentially high fuel costs that were crippling everyone. However, they were able to respond with appropriate cost-cutting measures to help minimize damage. Our dependence upon fossil fuels made it very difficult for any airline to survive during these times. So that is truly not a bad performance for a smallish airline from the small country of Taiwan.
